Education, not advice. No one at VRI is licensed to give investment advice. VRI is not an investment firm and never will be. Vanguard Resources, Inc. is no way affiliated with the Vanguard Group of mutual funds and investments.
Obviously, many Americans need help in setting and achieving their retirement goals. Employers should help their employees think about their retirement savings in terms of the amount of income they will have each month to cover their living expenses. It is estimated that employees need approximately 70% – 100% of their pre-retirement income to survive the long haul of retirement. Why? Because retirement income must pay for all living expenses and HEALTHCARE. Many believe that healthcare will be taken care of through Medicare. Wrong. Medicare has many gaps like the Medicare Prescription Donut Hole that will not completely close by the Affordable Care Act. Also, Medicare does not pay for long-term care.
Many large employers have employees spread all over the USA and many times the employees do not have access to computers to read online employer or investment information. Newsletters, intranet education, and group meetings are all great for “some” of the employees on their journey of learning about retirement income. But, there is nothing better than a one-on-one session with an education counselor to communicate the employer plan for participation and contribution (not investments).
At VRI, we give the employer an opportunity to educate employees about their retirement plan contributions through one-on-one communication. The employer fashions the message. The education counselor delivers the message at all locations in all languages and monitors the responses for the employer. Our Employee Retirement Survey will aid the employer in understanding if they have an “education” issue surrounding retirement income planning within their workforce.
